ANNUAL PICNIC HELD

We had a beautiful day for the annual picnic at North Jetty Park on April 6th. While there wasn’t a huge crowd, those who came enjoyed themselves. Our thanks to the Hospitality Committee for the arrangements and to all who brought goodies to share.

ROOF TILES

One of the requirements of our deed restrictions is that each property be kept in the same condition it was when new, which includes such things as keeping tile roofs clean. However, even after pressure washing and the use of chemicals to remove mold, a roof can look mottled and dirty. This usually means that the roof has at some point been painted and that the paint has deteriorated due to mold, mold-removing chemicals, and normal wear. If your roof does not meet the “like new” standard after it has been cleaned, it’s time to schedule painting.

VENDOR RECOMMENDATIONS

workmanWe like to share the recommendations of our Sorrento South neighbors when it comes to service providers, so we offer the following for your consideration:

  • Bill Stanley does pressure washing and painting. He has done work for several of our residents and is well-regarded. Reasonable rates. 951-4007
  • Michael Paino does roof repairs. Reliable, excellent quality. 423-1052
  • Juan Garcia is a landscaper who usually works alone. Speaks fluent English and is eager to please. Mowing, edging, trimming, mulching & weeding. 408-0531
  • John Isard services irrigation systems, including hydraulic. 966-2686.

  • When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plaint is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

  • The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

  • If life deals you lemons, make lemonade. If it deals you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys.

A recent study showed that adults age 55 and older who volunteered for two or more groups were 44 percent less likely to die over the five-year study period than those who didn't volunteer.  Other studies have linked volunteering with reduced rates of illness and chronic pain, and increased functional ability.  We know an organization right here in Sorrento South that would like to help you live longer.  Call 966-2057.
