COVENANT REVIVAL

Documents regarding the revival of the Sorrento South deed restrictions were sent in early July to homeowners in the five units that constitute Sorrento South. An explanation was provided to explain the revival process, and those with questions were encouraged to contact the Association President. Owners were asked to sign and return the Joinder and Consent form by July 25, 2010 in the postage paid envelope enclosed.

A majority (51%) of the owners in each unit must agree to revival of the covenants if that entire unit is to be subject to deed restrictions. If the vote is favorable, the next step is to amend the covenants to conform more closely to the version we have been operating under since 1997. That will require another vote. In the end, the Board of Directors hopes to have updated covenants that apply to all Sorrento South homeowners because they believe it protects our property values. (Just ask one of the area’s realtors!) If you have not yet returned a Joinder and Consent form, you can expect to be contacted by a member of the organizing committee for your neighborhood unit.

CANAL CONCERNS

The Board of Directors has received complaints from those who live along our waterways about speeding watercraft. The canals are no-wake zones with posted speed limits. Please make sure that you and your family members observe these limits whenever navigating the canals. This is necessary to prevent erosion, protect manatees, avoid damage to other boats, and minimize noise. We understand that Fish & Wildlife officials will be stepping up patrols in the intracoastal waterway and its canals.

By the time a man is wise enough to watch his step, he’s too old to go anywhere.

NEW NEIGHBORS

We are glad to report that things appear to be picking up in the real estate market, at least here in Sorrento South. Please extend a warm welcome to Randy Wilson, buyer of the Johnson house at 418 Murillo Drive; Bill and Elaine Brame, new owners of 412 Bellini Circle; and Bruce and Karla Sprague, who purchased the Wheeler house at 423 Bellini Circle. May they enjoy all that our wonderful community has to offer.

BOAT SLIP FOR RENT

If you have a boat that needs a watery home, a slip has become available in the Sorrento Marina. To qualify, renters must live in Sorrento South (not on a waterway) or Sorrento East. Please call 966-2057 for more information.

SAY WHAT?

A man was telling his neighbor in Sorrento South, “I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me $4,000 but it’s state of the art. It’s perfect!”

“Really,” said the neighbor. “What kind is it?”

“Twelve thirty.”

 THE SENILITY PRAYER

God grant me the senility

To forget the people

I never liked anyway,

The good fortune to run into the ones I do,

And the eyesight to tell the difference.

  • When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plaint is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

  • The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

  • If life deals you lemons, make lemonade. If it deals you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys.

A recent study showed that adults age 55 and older who volunteered for two or more groups were 44 percent less likely to die over the five-year study period than those who didn't volunteer.  Other studies have linked volunteering with reduced rates of illness and chronic pain, and increased functional ability.  We know an organization right here in Sorrento South that would like to help you live longer.  Call 966-2057.
